Caringbridge – How it’s been Going

Categories: check in

Since admitting him Sunday night, he’s had a battery of blood tests and other medical tests (MRI, CAT Scan, Echocardiogram etc).  On Tuesday they finally declared that he did indeed have a stroke.  This stroke was caused by a narrowing of an artery in his brain (as compared to a blockage).   The conundrum they can’t figure out is that how a 46-year-old man (considered young for this) who has never smoked, never imbibed alcohol, or used recreational drugs and works out daily for at least an hour and a half has arteries that are narrowing.

Because of this, they wanted to get more intense imagery done.   This morning (8/13) they transferred him from The Brooklyn Hospital to Mount Sinai hospital off of Columbus Circle in Manhattan where they will be performing an angiogram test on him to see if they can get to the bottom of this issue.

On a parallel path, Acute Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy are all being highly recommended for at least one week inpatient and on an ongoing basis for the next 3 months outpatient.

I’m heading up to the hospital for the first time today to see what it’s all about but so far he’s content that it’s quiet and he is in a room on his own now.  More details to come shortly about the new digs.

He has seen a few visitors so he’s open to that now.  If you’d like to visit just reach out to him or to me and we can work schedules to make it happen.  Most hospitals have a 2 visitor maximum at a time and if I’m there … well… y’all know math 🙂
